Metal 3D Printing

METAL 3D PRINTING SUBCONTRACTOR

Located in Doncaster, UK.

LAS is a Metal Additive Manufacturing Service Provider, in the forms of Powder Bed Fusion and Laser Metal Deposition.

These two processes allow LAS to cover majority of AM applications, including rapid prototyping.

What materials can be 3D printed?

The materials we can 3D print are:

- Tool Steels

- Stainless Steels (including Super Duplex)

- Aluminium alloys

- Titanium alloys

- Superalloys (such as Inconel)

- Stellite's

Advantages of 3D Printing

Creative Design

Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) allows you to optimise you component structure to reduce unnecessary material. AM can also provide any opportunity to manufacture components that aren't able to be made in conventional techniques like machining, forming and casting.

Reduced Lead Times

AM takes your CAD file and produces a real life components. This means you don't have to wait for tooling to be manufactured. It is also easier to produce design iterations quicker.

Quantity Flexibility

The versatility of AM processes allows you to produce a singular prototype and, also, manufacture production size batch.

Reduced Costs

AM removes the cost of large one-off tooling costs. Using DED, it can be used to repair large components so they don't need to be completely remanufactured.

Applications of 3D Printing

Medical

Metal Additive Manufacturing is used in the medical industry to 3D print scanned files of individual teeth. This process reduces the cost of each tooth compared to traditional processes like milling and pouring.

Aerospace

AM is ideal for producing lightweight components for aircrafts. This process is particularly useful for manufacturing jet engine casings, turbine/impeller blades and repairing the edges of fan blades.

Space

The space industry uses Metal AM to produce prototype parts for satelittes and rocket engines. The design freedom allows for optimum weight and design, which is ideal for space applications.

Automotive

Metal AM has various applications within automotive with some of the most common being prototyping parts for Formula One/Motorsports cars, using topology optimisation to reduce weight and manufacture hard to machine materials like Inconel Alloys.
