Metal Additive Manufacturing - LBPF
Metal Additive Manufacturing: LPBF
At LAS, we have the capabilities to additively manufacture metal materials using our Trumpf TruPrint 3000. This machine uses Selective Laser Melting Technology (SLM) to melt layers of powder into complex components. The Trumpf TruPrint creates high resolution finishes due to an 80𝜇𝑚 beam diameter.
Technology Explained:
The process starts by programming the components. Then, powder is added to the supply cylinders. Powder out of the supply cylinders is used to cover the build plate completely via a scraper. The scraper creates a smooth thin layer of powder. The laser then selectively melts parts of the powder to create the parts. The build plate will drop down and then the powder will be spread on top, and the process repeated until eventually the process is complete. The build cylinder will be moved into ancillary powder removal equipment, and then replace the build cylinder in the machine.
Technical data
Build Envelope: Ø300mm x 400mm
Layer Thickness: 20-150 𝜇𝑚
Laser Diameter: 80 𝜇𝑚
Substrate Pre-Heat: Up to 200℃
Build Rate: 5-120cm^3/h
Advantages of LBPF
- No tooling fees.
- Fast Lead Times
- Low-cost part
- Reduced Material Wastage
- Complex components built with ease.
Production
Our Trumpf TruPrint 3000 is optimised for production work, as we have multiple build cylinders. This allows our production staff to easily change over build cylinders for efficient production work. A large build envelope of Ø300mm x 400mm allows us to maximise parts per run.
